  • Praxinoscope: storytelling through green animation

This workshop introduced the praxinoscope as an analogue animation and storytelling device, encouraging participants to explore creative approaches to communicating research. Through the production of short moving-image sequences, participants translated their ideas into dynamic visual narratives that extended beyond traditional academic formats. The session proved highly successful, generating imaginative and distinctive outcomes that demonstrated the potential of animation as an engaging and accessible research tool. With guest speaker Jenny Clements.

Paper Mechanics: research questions in visual form

This session explored paper engineering techniques, including layered structures and movable elements, as a means of interrogating and presenting research questions. Participants used these methods to challenge assumptions within their fields, transforming abstract or theoretical ideas into tactile, visual forms. The workshop fostered critical thinking and experimentation, resulting in a range of inventive and hands-on outcomes that highlighted the value of material processes in shaping new perspectives on research. With Guest speaker Helena Haughton.

    Recycled Printing: collaborative visual work

This workshop focused on low-impact printmaking using recycled materials, introducing participants to sustainable and accessible image-making techniques. It emphasised the role of visual methods in sparking dialogue, supporting collaboration, and broadening the reach of research. The participants produced unique art pieces that reflected both environmental awareness and creative engagement, demonstrating how collaborative making can enrich research communication. With guest speaker Frida Toth.
