Animated Research in Indonesia

Hi, I’m Sophie, I’m the founder of Animated Research and for the last seven years I have worked with university academics in Science and Social Science to creatively amplify their work through film, exhibitions and public events.

It all began when I started working with Dr Camilla Morelli, running animation workshops with her in the Amazon rainforest. Through this project I gained an understanding of the balance between making appealing content and keeping true to the anthropological/scientific perspective.

Since then I have been combining animation with research in all sorts of ways – as a tool for data collection (using hands-on workshops to allow participants to tell their own story), or even using it as academic training to help encourage PhD students to think differently about their own research.
